Every summer, 1 in 4 children across the Tampa Bay area go hungry. Many of these families are food restricted, where they do not have the easy access of feeding nutritional foods to their families and run the risk of not having enough to eat during the summer. NTC is proud to play a part along with several others who contributed to Feeding Tampa Bay's Cereal for Summer food drive. Together, we raised over 804,000 meals to ensure that no family and no child goes without this summer.
This is NTC's fourth year collecting cereal for the drive and has donated over 650 boxes of breakfast items to help provide meals to families this summer. We know that it is our responsibility to give back to our community and contribute in making a difference, which is why NTC continues to help throughout the year. Our team members volunteer every November during their warehouse sorting to ensure families are food sufficient during the holidays.
Over the years, NTC has participated in raising cereal and breakfast foods for the Cereal for Summer drive with Feeding Tampa Bay, hosted and coordinated by Channel 10 News Manager of Strategic Partnerships, Kathryn Bursch. She had witnessed the lack of food security in her community and that is how her fundraising for Cereal for Summer campaign began. Since she has started, the fundraiser has grown significantly and has increased awareness of hungry children and families across the Tampa Bay area. With sponsors from the Tampa Bay Rays, Publix, FedEx, Sonny’s BBQ, General Mills and the Tampa Bay Lightning, this year’s event raised the most donations than it has in the past, and will only grow from here on out!
The Cereal for Summer drive may be over, but Feeding Tampa Bay, the largest food relief bank in Tampa Bay, is always looking for donations to assist the food insecure families throughout the year.
